Are pink dolphins endangered?


There are two species of dolphins that are sometimes called pink dolphins:




The Amazon River Dolphin, which lives in the Amazon river basin; and

The Chinese White Dolphin, which lives in the Pearl River, and also in the ocean waters in South-east Asia.

Both are endangered.



The Amazon species is mainly threatened by pollution and habitat loss.

The Chinese species is threatened by

* busy boat traffic (collisions, noise)

* overfishing and fishing nets

* pollution (sewage, industrial pollutants)

* PCB, DDT and TBT which have entered their food chain

* habitat loss (landfill)
