Whale Watching in South Africa

by Callie

New permits have been issued for boat based whale watching in South Africa. Ocean Safaris has operated for over 10 years with a legal licence and are now proud to have secured a long term permit and scoring the highest in our area. Licensed operators may go as close as 50m to whales. One of the nicest places to watch whales in South Africa is Plettenberg Bay which is situated on the Garden Route in the Western Cape. There are a multitude of marine life. During migrating times, we see the Humpback Whales, the Southern Right whales visit us to breed and calve. The Bryde's whale pops in and out of our bay all year round. Dolphins include the Common, Humpbacked and Bottle nose. Robberg Peninsula on the one side of the bay is home to thousands of Cape Fur seals. To watch these fantastic and majestic animals is nothing but spectacular. You can go on a whale watching boat with Ocean Safaris who are situated on Central Beach. www.oceansafaris.co.za or info@oceansafaris.co.za
