Monterey is a great place to watch gray whales migrating along the coast during winter and spring months, between December and May.
Other species seen all year around are killer whales, harbor porpoises, dalls porpoises, and bottlenose, risso's, Pacific white-sided and common dolphins.
Many tours are available that take you out to the ocean where you can get close to them.
