Pygmy Sperm Whale
Pygmy sperm whale (Kogia breviceps) - one of the three sperm whales - is a small whale growing only up to 3.5 meters long and weighing up to 400kg.
Like the Giant Sperm Whale, it has the spermaceti organ, and consequently a very large head and particularly forehead.
Like the Giant Sperm Whale, it has teeth in its lower jaw.
It is a rare species, not often seen, and it tends to be found in deep waters.
It does not breach much, and is known for floating on the surface between dives.
It is often solitary, but has been seen in small groups too.
It is found in temperate waters of all the large oceans.
Because it is a rare species, and not often seen, not much is known about it.
It was not hunted massively during the old whaling days.
It gets stranded and caught in fishing nets, and its total numbers are not known.
