Hectors Dolphin


Hectors dolphin is a very small dolphin.


It is probably the smallest dolphin in the world and it is endemic to New Zealand.

It is grey with white underside and dark grey to black flippers, fluke and dorsal fin.

Its dorsal fin is distinctively rounded.

It is about 1.4 meters long and weighs about 50 kg.

It lives up to 20 years. It eats fish and other small marine animals.


Its predators are sharks and killer whales.


It likes shallow, coastal waters, and it is only found in the waters around New Zealand.
